My form 6 life was stay
at BUKIT MERTAJAM which is a ‘Gourmet paradise’. I have been taste a lot of
YUMMY food at BUKIT MERTAJAM! I really MISS ALL THE DELICIOUS FOOD at this
moment! It was very torment to create a FOOD blog !!!
Let me introduce some of the food to you all~^^
~ HOKKIAN TA ~
Well this is Hokkian Ta, Just like Hokkian mee Soup, but there
is very little soup, which is very concentrated, and garnish with pork ribs,
shrimps and all the usual stuffs and Braised Chicken Feet. Also very different
from the Singapore Version.
Well for those of you who would like to try it out, here are the
following information.
Location : Exit Bukit Mertajam to Kulim via Convent School
towards Kg Baru, Just before the traffic light where the road ture in to a one
way road, you will see on your left this restaurant (PHOTO) before, Taman
Sentosa, before the road that turn in to BM country club. Turn in and go into
the lane beside this restaurant (City Restaurant), Then Turn right, the Coffee
Shop is in front of you.

HOKKIAN MEE ~
A
normal bowl is RM3 with two fresh medium sized prawns, body shell removed. This
makes it much easier to enjoy the prawn, you just need to remove the big prawn
head. I saw him boil the prawns in the soup briefly before serving on top of
the noodles. I think that helps to add more flavor to the soup. And a lot of
chicken feet is also given, which is quite unusual for Penang hokkien mee. So,
you better remind the boss not to include it if you are not daring enough to
enjoy it. For me, I enjoyed them. The chicken feet is cooked separately braised
style so it’s very soft and tasty. In overall, I feel the Hokkien mee is above
average at best.
This
is the boss, happily preparing the orders from the customers. You could see he
is still wearing the red t-shirt given by Ah Xian’s crew lol. He is a lucky guy
for being featured in Ah Xian’s eatery program and blog. No doubt it has
boosted his noodles’ popularity considerably
among BM lang and outstation people. Because even though your food is good, you
would still need a little help from the publicity. Else, nobody would know.
~ TOMYAM MEE ~
It wasn’t easy for us to find the shop, but his decent sense of
direction and rough GPS estimates got us there after two initial wrong
locations. The place was called Kedai Kopi Tien Heng Heng and it was crowded
that night. Almost everyone was there to eat tom yam noodles.
Queuing
up to take your preferred ingredients at the counter was like “the survival of
the fittest.”
Each
spoonful of soup was fiery hot, thick and fragrant from the lemongrass. The
soup started off sweet, progressed to the salty-spicy flavour and ended on a
tangy note. You don’t feel the spiciness at first, but when it creeps up,
you’re sure to order another drink. It was spicy to the point I turned red and
started sweating, but I enjoyed this mildly sadistic experience. The
ingredients and noodles were nothing to shout about, but they went well with
the spicy broth.
~ DUCK EGG CHAR KUAY TEOW~
I'm sure lots of BM kia definately know about the well-knowned
three brothers Char Koay Teow (CKT) in Bukit Mertajam. This is where my
ex-roommate brought me to, the brother stall which next to the taxi station.
Another two is along Jalan Kulim and nearby the BM railway station. Omg!!
Listen up is duck egg! *call me sampat! :P* How rarely it can seen in Penang.
Hmm, i didn't try any so far in Penang. If you do, appreaciate if you can
recommend me to =) I like non other than the fabulous duck egg, really
different with the ordinary chicken egg. It's fragrant and feel differently in
every bite.
Okay, forgot about the duck egg, let us talk about the CKT.
Frankly, it taste good especially fried using charcoal but it's too oily for
me. I guess the price of cooking oil is decreasing nowsadays. :P I still prefer
the Uncle's CKT at Siam Road in Penang. Healthy or On-diet person should think
twice before try on this. You will gain lots of fats with the hundreds of
calories from its oil and lards. However, it's too tasty enough to pull you
back from trying. Who cares? Hahaha!
Each of us side up one duck egg cost 70 cents. I don't know
how's the price now, but the time i went was RM2.50 for normal and RM3.00 for
big.
